Model of 7-inch 45 Caliber Tractor Gun

This working model of a 7-inch 45 caliber tractor mount gun was built by museum docent Tim Carsola and is on loan to the museum.  The gun it was modelled after was fired at Dahlgren on October 16, 1918, at 12:15 pm by LCDR Howard K. Lewis, USN.  It was being tested for the 10th Regiment of the Marines to take to France in World War I.  The model took Tim over 800 hours to build.  It was recently fired at a range in King George (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17wyVR-VgFg) and at the museum’s 10th anniversary open house.

Come see this and many other interesting artifacts at the Dahlgren Heritage Museum, open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.
